The Let Them Theory Book Review: Simple Idea. Surprisingly Powerful.

Mel Robbins commented on my video review of this book.

Yes, that Mel Robbins. The one with 40 million followers. The one whose book was one of the top selling book of all of 2025. That one.

I have a screenshot. I’m not going to pretend to be cool about this.

Yes. That actually happened.

Anyway. The book.

The Let Them Theory is a simple idea. Two words, really. But darn it all, simple ideas delivered well have a way of sticking when the complicated ones don’t. Robbins delivered this simple message effectively. And for me, it stuck. (Although I just read it last week, so maybe some will slip as time goes on. Yet to be determined.)

The Let Them Theory is part of my 100 book reading goal for 2026 (Book #32)

The Let Them Theory Summary

The core idea is two words: Let Them.

Let them make their own choices. Let them have their own opinions. Let them do the thing you’d rather they didn’t do. Stop burning energy trying to control what you were never going to control anyway.

Then comes the second half of the theory, which is equally important: Let Me.

Let Me decide how I respond. Let Me focus on what I can actually control. Let Me take responsibility for my own next move instead of waiting for everyone else to change first.

That’s it. That’s the book. Except Robbins spends the rest of it showing you exactly how hard that is in practice (and why it matters anyway.) She includes easy-to-digest examples that hit close to home.

The one that got me: her son didn’t plan sufficiently for prom. Every parent instinct in her brain was screaming to step in and fix it. Her daughter stopped her and suggested 2 words: Let them.

She let him figure it out.

He did.

That story is so painfully relatable as a parent. Been there. Complained about it.

More great personal growth books!

Now onto the rating! The Let Them Theory Book Review:

My innovative system for rating humor books is explained here

Overall Book Awesomeness Score: 5/5

5 out of 5 stars

Simple message. Effective examples. Seems like common sense and something I’ve known for years. I just needed someone to frame it in the right way before my brain would accept it.

Things I liked:

  • The prom story. Every parent will feel this one in their chest.
  • The “Let Me” half of the theory is just as important as “Let Them” and she gives it the attention it deserves.
  • Relatable examples throughout. Not corporate speak. Real life stuff.

Things I didn’t like:

  • Easier said than done. Yes, I know this should work in theory. But have you seen the dumb things people do? And I’m supposed to LET THEM?

Conclusion: The Let Them Theory Book Review

One of those books you need to read eventually because EVERYONE else has read it. Like, you don’t want to be the only person who has never seen Star Wars, right?

But it was worth it. We all need to care a little less about what other people do or say or think…or wear…or eat…etc. Robbins frames it up perfectly and gives you something you can actually use.
