Little Victories Book Review: Small Wins Matter

I may have found my new favorite writer.

Which is slightly embarrassing, because the book came out ten years ago.

Jason Gay’s Little Victories is a collection of positive, ridiculously funny essays about sports, parenting, aging, and trying to function as an adult human. He’s a dad. He writes about sports. He overthinks things. He celebrates small wins. He injects goofy humor into his anecdotes.

Reminds me of someone I know...

Except he’s an actual sportswriter. For the Wall Street Journal. I mostly yell at the Timberwolves from my couch.

Little Victories is part of my 100 book reading goal for 2026 (Book # 11)

quick thoughts on Jason Gay’s Little Victories

Little Victories Summary

Little Victories is a collection of humorous essays about sports, fatherhood, marriage, aging, and finding the small things to celebrate instead of waiting for Superbowl-level wins.

Jason Gay is a longtime sports columnist for The Wall Street Journal. But this book isn’t about box scores and championships. It’s about the tiny wins that keep normal people sane:

The core idea is simple:

Big wins are rare. Small wins happen every day. Pay attention to them.

He argues that life isn’t built on championships. It’s built on little victories. Finishing a project. Having dinner with your family. Making it through a rough season. Getting up and trying again.

It’s funny. It’s reflective. It’s absurd. And it’s encouraging.

Conclusion: Little Victories Book Review

Gay reminds us that adulthood is about noticing the small wins along the way. The good dinner. The decent day. The moment you didn’t completely lose your cool.

It’s funny. It’s thoughtful. It’s ridiculous in the best way.
