I found Elyse Myers the same way most people did: scrolling. Most of the time, I just mindlessly consume and swipe without really digesting what I just watched. Not much sticks. But after watching Myer’s awkward story of the 100 tacos first date… I was in.
She’s funny. She’s quirky. She’s anxious. She’s sweatpants and a hoodie and messy hair in a bun. The stories feel like they’re being told to you, not at you. Just very specific, very funny, very human moments that somehow end up being universal.
So when I found out she’d written a book, I immediately jumped on board. By which I mean I got in line to check it out from my local library. It took a while, because apparently a lot of other people also wanted to read Elyse Myers.

That’s a Great Question, I’d Love to Tell You Book Summary
That’s a Great Question, I’d Love to Tell You is a collection of personal essays by Elyse Myers doing what she does best: telling awkward, anxious, very specific stories and somehow making them feel universal.
She writes about dating disasters, panic attacks, anxiety, early adulthood confusion, and the strange paths that eventually lead her toward marriage and a more settled life. The humor comes from her overthinking, and her willingness to overshare awkward, intimate moments in a way that makes you feel like you’re her best friend.
If you’ve seen Elyse Myers on social media, the tone will feel instantly familiar. If you haven’t, this book works as a solid introduction. (Although I recommend watching some of her videos first.)
Myers includes plenty of standard essays throughout. But she also includes poetry, drawings, rants (struggling to fold bed sheets into perfect “hospital corners”.)
More funny humor essays!
Who is Eylse Myers?
Elyse Myers is a comedian, writer, and digital creator best known for turning everyday anxiety and awkwardness into deeply relatable humor. She first went viral on TikTok after telling a story about a terrible date where a guy ordered 100 tacos and somehow stuck her with the bill. The internet, understandably, stayed with her to see what she said next.
Since then, she’s built a massive following with self-aware, kindhearted storytelling about mental health, relationships, and overthinking.

Now onto the rating! That’s a Great Question Book Review:

My innovative system for rating humor books is explained here
Wholesomeness Score: 4/5

Myers has a wholesome, girl next door vibe. Her stories are down-to-earth, relatable, and generally “PG”. Also, she tells a sweet/wholesome love story about the relationship with her now husband (awwww!) She does have some honest anecdotes on mental health struggles, sex and dating, drug use (not her own), etc. Nothing graphic, but notable for this rating.
Hilarity Score: 3/5

This book isn’t littered with jokes like a stand-up routine. Elyse Myers’ humor comes from her awkwardness and willingness to share that awkwardness with us. (Thank you, Mrs. Myers!)
Overall Book Awesomeness Score: 4/5

I already liked Elyse Myers from her goofy social media videos. This book was sort of her social media persona in written form. Some stories resonated with me. Some, not as much. But overall, I enjoyed the experience!
Things I liked:

- sharing awkward, intimate moments with us
- dating mishaps
- wholesome and sweet love story of meeting her husband and starting their life together
- honest, relatable struggles with anxiety and panic attacks
Things I didn’t like:

- Not all of the stories/essays/rants/poems/drawings connected with me. (She has a lot going on in this book!) But the artistic diversity is representative of Mrs. Myer’s online persona. She is a woman with many different interest and talents.
Conclusion: Elyse Myers Book Review
If you already enjoy Elyse Myers’ videos (like me!), this book will feel like spending more time in her world. Just with longer stories and fewer scrolling distractions. If you’re new to her, I recommend watching some of her videos first. If her style of humor doesn’t connect with you in video form, it probably won’t in this book either.
But as a fan, I enjoyed her raw, relatable quirkiness.
